Why You Should Start Practicing Hot Yoga This Summer

Once spring rolls in, we either get a lot of students asking us if it’s safe to practice hot yoga during the summer months or they tell us, “see you in the fall!” While hot yoga makes a great winter month activity, it also can provide a lot of benefit during the summer.

So, before you roll up your mat and toss it in the corner, read a few key benefits to practicing hot yoga all throughout the year.

  • Do you find yourself overindulging in the summer with food and drinks? If you are feeling lethargic from that weekend barbecue, sweating can aid in cleansing your organs, muscles and glands. Hot Yoga will re-energize you and help you sweat out the bad toxins that are slowing you down on those warm summer days.

  • The heat prepares your body for outdoor activities by increasing heat tolerance. In addition, you can continue to work on your breathing exercises which can boost your overall bodily function.

  • The heat outside allows your body to warm up faster prior to class, which aids in flexibility. We are all still working at our computer desks and scrolling on our phones, probably with poor postures. Let the heat inside and outside help you treat your body well.

  • All winter long, you’ve put in hard work maintaining your practice. Whether it’s summer or winter, hot yoga can be challenging for all levels. Instead of taking that 3-month hiatus, keep practicing to maintain your strength and breathing exercises. That way, you’re not having to start from scratch come fall.

  • Continuing your hot yoga practice can be your gentle reminder to drink more water to hydrate and detoxify your body. Tis the season for BBQ, beer and other outdoor festivities and we tend to forget to fill up with H2O.

  • Hate the summer heat? You live in Wisconsin where we have hot summers, so why not adapt your body and mindset to these temperatures, rather than living the next few months miserably. Hot yoga can be that controlled environment to help you to adapt.

  • Now, this is the most important, we are biased. Our hot yoga class is available all year long and it’s a low-cost, pharmaceutical-free, and a reliable option to developing resilience against anxiety. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (52.9 million in 2020).

One more reminder… HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE.

Especially in the summer, if you’re planning to come to class be sure to drink water before, during, and after class! Electrolytes or coconut water are great ways to be sure you are ready for class and able to recover without becoming dehydrated.

Join us. Whether you’re taking a hiatus from your practice or you’ve never thought of trying out a hot yoga before, we’ll be here ready to sweat more and stress less!
